News today that Asda has been unsuccessful in its latest attempt to foil equal pay claims being brought by thousands of its employees. 

With mandatory gender pay gap reporting for large private and voluntary sector employers having been introduced under the Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Reporting Regulations (2017)) - which came into force on 6 April 2017 - large employers can expect more claims of this nature.

Employers should take the steps necessary to avoid pay differentials between male and female employees or at very least be in a position to objectively justify any differential. Not to do so could be very damaging both financially and reputationally.
