A timely wake up call today about the dangers of unsolicited marketing and, in particular, automated marketing calls made without explicit consent. 

While increasing focus and attention is being given to all things related to data protection, with one eye on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which becomes UK law on 25th May 2018, it is also a reminder that the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) already has significant powers under existing data protection law, which includes the ability to impose a monetary penalty of up to £500,000 on data controllers.
