Due to the unprecedented pressure the NHS is currently under and as people are advised to stay at home, employees can now apply for an isolation note through a new online service.
The notes can be used as evidence that an employee has been advised to self-isolate due to coronavirus, either because they have symptoms or they live with someone who has symptoms, and therefore cannot work. In these circumstances, the employee will therefore be entitled to receive Statutory Sick Pay.
The notes can be accessed via the NHS111 website and can be emailed directly to the employer.
Employers may need to be flexible when requesting isolation notes as some very sick employees may not be able to complete the online form straightaway, however, the service can be used to generate an isolation note on behalf of someone else.
