It is our understanding that HMRC has commented that in the last 48 hours of CJRS portal being live
(a) 309,000 employers have made a claim;
(b) 2.2 million employees have been furloughed; and
(c) £2,600,000,000 has been claimed.
On the other hand, it seems that the banks have only approved less than half of the applications made under the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), namely 16,624 applications have been approved out of 36,000.
Interestingly the Office for National Statistics, has released information from a survey undertaken during the period of 23 March to 5 April 2020, showing that of the 6,171 businesses responding to the Business Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Survey (BICS), 24% reported they had temporarily closed or paused trading for the period 23 March to 5 April 2020, 0.3% reported permanently ceasing trading, while 75% were continuing to trade.
