After the Prime Minister's speech yesterday evening, many businesses and individuals have been waiting most of the morning for more detail from the Government on how it envisages getting people back to work.
The guidance “Our Plan to Rebuild: The UK Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Strategy’” (the “Strategy”) confirms that workers should continue for the foreseeable future, to work from home rather than their normal physical workplace, wherever possible.
The Strategy explains that by continuing to ensure that individuals work from home, this will help to reduce the number of social contacts across the UK and hopefully keep the transmission of COVID-19 as low as possible.
The Strategy goes onto explain that where individuals cannot work from home, they should travel to their workplace if it is open, and that sectors of the economy that are allowed to be open should be open for example construction, logistics, distribution, scientific research in laboratories and food production, with the exception being hospitality and non-essential retail.
The Strategy confirms that further information the “COVID-19 Secure Guidelines” will be issued this week which workplaces should follow.
We recognise that many employers will require advice and support as they look to implement the Government’s guidelines. Please do not hesitate to contact your usual Brabners employment team contact if you need any assistance.
