The Government yesterday announced an extension to the multi-billion pound Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which will now remain open until the end of October 2020.
During this time workers will continue to receive 80% of their current usual salary (capped at £2,500) per month.
However, the Chancellor has stated that employers will be asked to contribute towards the pay of furloughed employees moving forward.
From the start of August furloughed workers will be able to return to work on a part-time basis with employers being asked to pay a percentage towards the salary of the furloughed workers. It is hoped that these changes will provide employers with the flexibility needed to support the transition back to work, and to reduce the risk of mass redundancies.
The Scheme will continue unaffected until the end of July with the new changes starting from 1 August 2020.
More information on the changes expected by the end of the month.
